Double A... (beep beep)... JUST DONT GO! Officially screwed

My husband and I have a 1991 Ford Aerostar. The transmission started acting up (slipping, wouldnt go into gear) so we decided to take it to AAMCO because after all, AAMCO is nationwide and have what at first appears to be a good warranty and guarantee on their work.

What a HUGE mistake! We took our van to the local AAMCO located in San Bernardino California 365 N. Waterman Ave. We turned it in on 9-20-99, after inspection, they said it was blown and needed to be rebuilt completely.

We got it back on 9-24-99 with the grand total being $1991.54. Everything seemed to be working fine. Two weeks later my husband took the van in to get the brakes done to a mechanic we knew and trusted. It turned out that AAMCO had charged us for some external parts that werent even installed, those being a new cross member at $226.00 and a new transmission mount at $72.00.

Very upset my husband called AAMCO immediately. He explained the situation to them. They told him to bring it down right away and they would put the parts on that he was charged for.

He took it in the next day. They put the cross member on and reimbursed him for the mount (They had the van for the entire day). Some time had passed and we had moved to a new town.

To our surprise the transmission started doing the same thing again (slipping, not going into gear). We called the lacal AAMCO which was in Temecula California 26671 Ynez Rd. They said to bring it in and they would take a look at it.

It was still under the 12 month warranty, so it was no charge to us. We took it in on 3-17-00 and didnt get it back until 3-22-00 (5 days!) All they had done was add some fluid and replaced a couple of hoses, clamps and a seal.

Not more than a month later it started acting up AGAIN! Once again we took it back. On 4-20-00 we turned it in and didnt get it back until 4-27-00 (7 days!) This time they changed the fluid, put another rebuilt torque converter on and some other odds and ends. Once again not more than 4 days later, the same thing!

We took it in 5-1-00 and got it back 5-3-00 (2 days). This time all they did was repair some cooler lines, and added fluid. This seemed to have worked. We didnt have anymore problems. That is until about one week after the 12 month warranty was up, which was only good from the original date 9-20-99.

Out of all the times we took it in, and they did work, they should have extended the warranty that much more each time, but didnt. So now our van just sits in the driveway with a messed up transmission, and no warranty. I dont have another $2000.00 to rebuild it again or to purchase another one. So basically we have been officially screwed.
