The mechanics in the autoshop tampered with my truck to get me to buy more services from them

About a year ago I went in to Pep boys in S. 10th st Mcallen for a transmission oil change. My truck was driving perfectly when I picked it up that afternoon as soon as I drove off the truck had no power and the engine seemed to have something wrong.

I drove back immediately and asked the workers to check it out they said they had to wait for the Manager, and that he was out to lunch. After waiting two and a half hours the manager showed up. I was upset and told informed him what happened he said ok lets take a drive and he jumped in the passenger side.

As soon as we started down the street I mentions the lack of power and the engine missing somehow, the first thing he said was "its driving fine, alot of people bring in their broken down cars get and oil change and blame it on my mechanics. I am not going to give you anything free."

He then suggested to do an all electronic diagnostic test worth 120 dollars but because he was being nice and trying to help me out, was going to charge me only 100. It got late and I had to leave my truck overnight. The following day the mechanics stalled me until the afternoon, when the diagnostic test was done late that afternoon they told me that my transmission was bad and I need some gaskets and gave me an estimate for 700 dollars. At this point I knew they were trying to screw me.

I called their 1-800 number and stayed on the line for two hours using their phone in their lobby, of course I was as load as I could. The main corporate office called them numerous times until the manager agreed to run the diagnostic test again. Everyone left for the day due to the store was closing, even the manager asked me to come the following day. I refused and said that I was not leaving until my truck was in the same condition it was when I drove it in.

Then the store manager sneaked out of the store. As the employees keep closing down the store with me in it one of the mechanics seeing my frustration probably had pity on me and handed me one of the spark plugs and informed me that the second test had showed that it was damaged and need to be replaced. He told me candidly get your spark plugs changed somewhere else and by inspection one of your fuel lines seems to be cracked. I thanked him and paid the 100 extra dollars and took my truck to a different mechanic at a local shop the following day.

I informed this new mechanic about the problem I had at the Pep Boys and he said he would check. I showed him the spark plug and in his opinion it seemed to be fine. He then checked my fuel system and saw that an intake hose to the fuel injection was sliced, and not cracked. He confirmed my suspicion that they were trying to screw me for every thing I had. He told me that it would be impossible to do anything because most of the workers would cover up for each other. I paid an extra 200 dollars to get new spark plugs and the intake hose repaired.

I wish I had known about this site a year ago, so other people wont be taken advantage of, like I was. So if anyone ask me now about the Pep Boys I suggest going somewhere else.
