I recently purchased a 99 Kia Sportage from a used car dealer in my area. The vehicle still had a balance of the manufacture's warranty.
The 4 wheel drive stopped working so the dealer I purchased the Kia from advised that I take it to Ertle Kia and have them do the repair work since they would have the proper parts and more able to do the labor. He also told me that he would pay all charges that Ertle Kia might bill me for.
Upon inspection, Ertle Kia advised that the vacuum solenoid was inop and that the vacuum lines were clogged and cracked. They then proceded to replace the vacuum solenoid and vacuum lines for a cost of $154.69. This was done on 12/13/02.
On 12/15/02 I noticed that when the vehicle was in 4 wheel drive and a sharp turn was made with the steering wheel, the vehicle would make a violent jerk which sounded like the transmission was being thrown in gear. This would occur in forward or reverse.
I called KIA direct on 12/18/02 and they advised me to return the car to Ertle Kia to have them take a look at it. I was also advised by KIA that there were a couple of recalls on the vehicle and that Ertle Kia would take care of those as well.
I called Ertle Kia and advised them of the situation with the 4 wheel drive and the recalls and made an appointment to have the vehicle brought in. They advised they could not work on the auto until 01/10/03. I advised them that there were a couple of recalls and I gave the the recall numbers so that they could order the parts.
On 01/10/03, I took the vehicle to Ertle Kia. After dropping the vehicle at the dealer by 9:00AM, I was advised that it would be approximately 1 to 2 hours. I returned at 11:00AM and noticed that my auto was in the same spot that I had parked it when I dropped it off. When I inquired about it, I was advised that they hadn't gotten to it and they were not sure when they could. When I finally returned at 5:00PM that day my auto was still sitting in the same spot.
After raising some hell they finally took my auto and disappeared for about 10 minutes with it and came back advising me that nothing was wrong with the 4 wheel drive. I was also advised that they were not able to get to the recalls because they did not have the parts. All this after I had called over 2 weeks prior and gave them the recall numbers so that the parts could be ordered. For this entire wasted day, they charged me a fee of 38.70.
I requested to speak with the manager and was advised that no one was there and that they all had gone home early that day. I asked for the phone number and advised that I would be contacting the manager the following day. I called the manager the next day and left a voice mail message explaining my complaint and that I wanted someone to return my call.
Until this day no one has returned my call.
On 01/24/03 I noticed that my 4 wheel drive was not working again. This time I called the purchasing dealer and returned the car to him for a refund. After I arrived he took the vehicle into his own garage and put it up on a lift and had his tech take a look at it. After inspection, he called me over to show me that the vacuum hoses that were replaced by Ertle Kia were infact never replaced and they were all cracked which was causing the 4 wheel drive to not work. I have the itemized receipts from Ertle which states what was supposedly done and the amounts that were charged.
