In Aug. Of 04 I went to J D Byrider to purchase a vehicle. Yes, that was my first mistake, I know. I ended up with a 96 Jeep Cherokee. I can't remember exactly when, but J D Byrider in Terre Haute, Indiana was taken over by Freedom Auto/Freedom Finance while I was still making payments on my vehicle.
I FINALLY paid off the balance of my loan on Jan. 21,08. I say 'finally' because I paid about $8,000 more than what my vehicle was really worth. As a single mother I struggled really hard to make those payments and yet I still don't have anything to show for it because even after numerous phone calls they have failed to send me the title.
I paid off the loan in Jan. And the first time I called Freedom Auto inquiring about my title was April or May. I knew that had to be plenty of time to have recieved it. I called the Terre Haute location that I bought the vehicle from and was told that I had to call the Indianapolis office and speak to someone in charge of the titles. So I did. The first phone call, Nicole (she's the person I've spoken to every time) told me she didn't know why I hadn't received it yet, said it showed in the computer that it was requested, and assured me that she'd take care of it and I'd get it in about a week. Hah!
I call her back about every 3-4 weeks and she always assures me she's taking care of it and THIS time I'll get it. The last time I called she told me she was requesting a duplicate title and I'd have it in a couple weeks. That was about a month ago.
I'm tired of dealing with this lady and am now considering contacting a lawyer. It looks to me like maybe there isn't a title to this vehicle that I paid $12,000 for. If there is then why has it taken over 8 months to get it to me?
I'm at a loss and not sure what to do next.
