I bought a used car for my kid to drive and thinking since it had 150,000 mile on it I would also get some protection incase it failed. So I bought this Protection Plus warranty.
I did not realize what a complete and utter waste of money and time this was. The car started using 1/2 quart of oil a week about two months into ownership. I took it to the mechanic I used. He determined it was internal damage or wear causing the problem. We contacted the company and wanted to know what needed to be done. I was told I would have to pay Tax, Fluids and Filters, Deductible ($100) and the complete engine removal and Tear down approximately $1000 TO DETERMIN IF IT WAS COVERED.
I called to ask for general information to educate me on what would happen after I did this if it was found to be covered or not covered. They refused to answer any quiestions. They claim they can not discuss any claim in process.
I tried explaining I only wanted to know general stuff not specific. I wanted to know if I paid for the engine tear down and it was found to be covered, were they going to rebuild it back up, replace it with new or salvage motor, or just replace the individual covered parts only then throw it back in the car. They would not answer anything, nor allow me to discuss the issue with any supervisor. My personal feeling is they take advantage of people with little extra income and no knowledge of the warranty business or company specifically. They take your money and run with it.
I can swap the motor out with a good salvage motor for $1500. I spoke to the person I bought both the car and the warranty from and let them know what is going on. He said for each of the four or five motor issues they have dealt with the company sent out a salvage motor to swap out with. The Mechanic said he has never dealt with a company that provides so little information.
So I would pay $1000 to have them swap to a salvage motor costing them approximately $600 if they pay full cost which I doubt and $600 to put it in. The darn car is only worth $2500. Save your money and use it for oil changes or a set of tires.
Do not under any circumstances view this company as informative, helpful, honest, or looking out for you the consumer of their product. The only person they look out for are themselves.
