Teds Used Cars
Overpriced junk with mulitple problems

I purchased a 1999 Ford Windstar van on Saturday December 29th, after losing our first car from them in an auto accident. The original purchase price was $8995, but because we were previous customers, and in "very good" standing, they gave us a break on it and only charged us $8500. We only had the van about a week when the ABS light came on, the rear wiper stopped working, and it had a slight valve tap since day one. I called Teds and scheduled a time to bring it in for service because it was under their wonderful 3 month unlimited mileage warranty. Not for nothing, but for that kind of money for a vehicle, I would have expected a better warranty, considering I had a 6 month/12,000 mile warranty on my first car from them. When I took it in, the service manager said it was an ABS module and that he would have that fixed first before the wiper, since the breaking system was more important. He said he would have to order the part and when it came in, he would have me bring the van back in to have the part put in. I waited over a week and hadn't heard anything about the part, so I called and asked him if the part was coming turtle express. At that point he said no, but he scheduled me to bring the van in to have it repaired. Here I am thinking that the part came in and the problem would be fixed, but much to my dismay, I spent an entire day waiting, only to find out they never ordered a new part, they got a used part from a junk yard about 30 minutes away. They finally got done putting the "used" part in and I was able to go on my way. About 2 weeks later, the ABS light came back on again. I called them back and had to bring the van back in to see what else was wrong. When I brought it back, they said that the back breaks weren't working at all, that only the front breaks were grabbing, in the meantime, this cause extreme damage to the front breaks, deeming it necessary for them to put all new breaks and rotors on the front, and adjusting the back breaks so they grab. While all this was taking place, both visits I had mentioned the valve tap and the service manager told me that he didn't hear anything. I asked again about the rear wiper and was told again that the breaks were more important to get fixed at the moment. I took it back for a 3rd visit about the valve tap because it got alot worse and sounded like the motor was gonna go at any time, I was told at that point that it was the octane in the gas that was causing it, and to use an octane booster every other fillup on the van, and that should solve the problem. Still at this point, no fix on the rear wiper. I have dumped several bottles of octane boost into this thing, and it sounds like someone is clanging pots and pans underneath me while I'm driving. I just had this van back in there in Thursday June 26 for another ABS problem and had them check out the power steering because it was making a really bad noise when I turned the wheel and the fluid was black and smelled like it was burned. The service manager said that something on the ABS was sticking and that he would drain out the power steering fluid and put new in to see if that helped the problem, if not, he would have me back in with it to fix the power steering pump. I went to my sisters house on Friday June 27th to help her with some last minute wedding plans. I took her out shopping for a few things she needed and when we got back to her house, she noticed a trail of liquid where I backed out of the parking spot and left, while I was out driving, the power steering started making noise so I had to add some fluid to it again.By Saturday morning, all of the fluid was gone and it was making noise again, I had to stop on the way to my sisters to buy more fluid. I woke up Sunday morning and all of the fluid was in a puddle on the ground under my van. My son in law and ex husband jacked up the front of the van and crawled under it to see where the fluid might be coming from. They found it was leaking profusely from the drain bolt on the steering box, exactly where the mechanic was a few days prior to drain out the old fluid and put new in. My son in law thought maybe it was loose, so he tried to tighten it up a little more, it wouldn't move. At that point he thought maybe it was too tight and tried to loosen it, it wouldn't budge, even with a breaker bar! He said it was either cross threaded when it was put back in or it was put back in with an impact wrench and split the seal, leaving it to leak all over the place. Since it was Sunday, and Teds wasn't open, I sent them an email about this and asked them who in their right mind would put a drain bolt in with an impact wrench. I got a call back first thing Monday morning from the salesman that sold us the van. He was very rude and asked me if I had seen the mechanic put the bolt on with an impact wrench, but because I couldn't be in the service area, I didn't see anything, he automatically assumes that I am just accusing his mechanics of something they didn't do, and he told me that they would fix this problem free of charge, but anything else that needed to be done to the van, I had to take elsewhere, they won't do anymore repairs on this vehicle. I would not recommend anyone to purchase a car from them or trust their mechanics to fix anything. None of their mechanics are certified in anything but shade tree work and wouldn't know a bolt from a nut! These people pray on people with no credit or bad credit and if you don't pay, they take your vehicle from you and smear your name all over the place, including the credit beaureau! Buyers beware of these people! If you can get a car elsewhere, I would strongly suggest you do so. These vehicles have been given a nickname over the years by many people, they are known as "Ted Sleds" because you ride some and push or pull the rest of the way.
