CFI Con-way Truckload bought CFI and have a train wreck on their hands

My husband and I started driving with Con-way Truckload. It was hard work, but they took care of us until we were informed that Con-way bought CFI. Our DM told us that everyone at the main office was fired and that CFI's operations would be taking over. Our DM told us that at least we still had a job and that he had children to feed, house payments to be made and bills that he didn't know how he was going to make it. Then he turned into the Demond from (you know where).

Next my husband got a call from a CFI rep. Telling him that we would be going to NY, Canada, and we would be Loading and unloading our own trucks. He then asked " how do you feel about that?" He was trying to push his button's, but we still tried to stay and see what happened. What a mistake! I spoke with safty and had Canada taken care of because of a 30 year old DUI that my husband had. And it was a joke to think of us loading our own truck (the guy was really just trying to push buttons).
But we kept hearing that Con-way driver's were spoiled, even from our DM... Oh sorry they like to be called freight manager's at CFI. She told me that CFI had been pulling Con-way loads before Con-way Truckload ever existed. Our miles went down hill because they gave us one of their new/used trucks that ended up in the shop 13 timess in a 3 mth. Quarter; and they got onto us saying that our miles were too low.

Yes they have lost alot of driver's, but not that they are straight out firing them, but because they are intentionally running them off. That way they don't have to pay any unemployment. Giving low miles, giving the same run to two trucks, and they talk to you like you are less them human.

I ended up having kidney trouble and our second freight manager in 3 months sugested that we self term, get things handled and come back before the 30 days was up. She said we would be able to come back as though we had never left. As soon as we agreed she started changing up on us. Knowing that I had been ill and the stress was pushing my husbands blood pressure up she started by saying we could just drop the trk. And trl.in Jacksonville, Fl. No problem right? Wrong... She then called back asking us to pick-up a relay in Atlanta, GA. And droping it in Jacksonville, Fl. At Con-way. No problem... Drop and hook right... Wrong.

She called back again and wanted us to pick up part of a load in Atlanta, GA, and the other half in Stone Mt. Ga. Strapping both halfs down ; take them to Jacksonville, Fl. When we told her no, that it was too much work and she knew we were both ill. That is why we were taking the time off. She said just leave it in your yard and I'll have someone come pick it up and put it on your DAC that you abandoned it.

We took the trk and trl to Jacksonville the next day as first agreed. But when we tried to go back before the 30 days was up she had put it on our record that we had refused the load.

Head of operations told recruiting to go ahead and let us come back. But Jamie's (our freight manager) boss Terry Hawks put us back to the first freight manager that we had requested to get away from (the one that said Con-way drivers were spoiled). Then after waiting for 5 days to get a trk they gave me 12 hours to pick up a rental car and be in Columbus, OH during the ice storm that hit March 6. When I told them that this was unreasonable that we needed acouple more days to be able to get this handled I was told eather you do it or terminate. I told her that we wanted to job, but what she was asking was unreasonable. She said so it's terminate? I said " I guess so".

I called back the following Monday and tried to talk with her (Ms Jackson / head of recruiting) she said she would check and see what she could do, but a few hours later she called back saying no. You can try again in 6 mths. Good Luck.

When we had self termed due to illness Feb. 06 CFI took out for insurance from our last check, but Feb. 07 they cancelled our insurance. It cost us $80.00 to get a doctor release for them to reinstate us Feb. 28 and Axel faxed 12 pages to us to be filled out and I had to send him back 14 pages. It cost us $116.00 to get reinstated just to have them term us one week later.

Think what you want, we have spoken with alot of Con-way and CFI drivers that are very unhappy and leaving. CFI drivers say that CFI was a good company before Con-way bought them out, and Con-way Truckload drivers were happy before CFI operations took over. Whatever it is, blame whoever you want. It's it's not working.
