As a wife of a driver for this company I am making this complaint. We have the usual complaints against many of the trucking companies. Some of which there are already many complaints listed on this website. Trucking companies leave much to be desired as a whole and my husband and I have not found one yet that keeps their word or treats their employees right.
Before going to P&S my husband was a flatbed driver with 5 years experience, (He has a clean driving record also) but was getting no more pay than the van drivers with less years experience. Actually, he was getting lower pay than he was when he first started with flatbed. He was also having constant breakdowns and was often gone for 4 or 5 weeks at a time. An average paycheck was barely $700.00 weekly. As an over the road driver he had all his expenses to take out of that.
While delivering freight, he talked to a few drivers from P&S who told him they were taking home $1,000 a week, or more, and getting home most weekends besides. An average load paid over $500.00 to the driver. They also told him that he could usually pick out of a choice of loads, that he would not be locked into any one load. (The company pays 27% of the load to the driver.) They also have a high sign on bonus. After confirming this information with the recruiting office at P&S my husband decided to go to work for them.
In orientation it was confirmed that they would bring home high paychecks of over $1000.00 weekly, if the driver is willing to do the running. And they said that they believe in helping the driver out as much as possible, if there are any problems with loads, etc.
But that is not what is happening. We are seeing too many low paychecks. At first it was up and down and we though that more time is needed. After nearly 6 months now we are finding things going from so-so to worse. He did get a good sign on bonus, and the funny thing is, that just managed to get us through some of those weeks when he hade nearly no freight. Thank God for the sign on bonus... He has been getting $200.00 loads on a steady basis now. Many of them have a 3 day delivery time, or he is sitting on them all weekend. Wheather he stays out, or comes home, it is all pretty much the same. He keeps hauling crap, hoping for that big one which is few and far between. If he turns down a load he is punished by sitting or getting a worse one.
He has talked to his dispatcher about the problem and gets this answer "I am doing the best I can". He has spoken to the office at Birmingham twice and they are all saying "We are doing the best we can." I ask you drivers, Does this sound like the same old same old, or what?
We are also finding with all the empty miles he has to drive sometimes add so many miles to those small runs that some of them don't even average 30 cents a mile. (130 empty miles to pick up a $200.00 load that goes nearly 600 miles.)
Besides having to wait for appointments and waiting to get freight. This company is not delivering on their promises once again for a driver who has always given over and above to anybody he has ever worked for.
