Replaced head gasket by Stevens Creek Toyotaat 59,000 miles per Toyota recall. Head gasket blew again at 115,000 miles. Even though the Service Manager told me that engine was a "piece of #" he would not even attempt to rectify the problem. Judging from reports from mechanics and other 4Runner owners the head gasket only lasts about 60,000 miles. I believe Toyota knows this and will do nothing about it.
This is begging for a class action lawsuit.
