My car was broken into in a walmart parking lot in the middle of the night where I was working for my contractor. There were no camera's in the lot where it occured and no one saw anything. I called the police and filled a report.
I contacted Progressive as soon as I got home to tell them what had happened, my door had been bent open and my speaker box was taken from the trunk. The person I spoke to initially was quite simpathetic and helpful. I was then given a Claim Rep Heath Edwards, who seemed nice enough, that set me up with a date to have my car's damage assesed.
I took it to the Progressive drop off center and they wrote up the assesment and the guy who did the assesment, C. Montalbano, was quite rude and told me that even though my speaker box was screwed down it was not in his opinion "permanately installed" and they were not going to cover it and told me that the picture I had of the speaker box on my cell phone was a joke basically and that I had the box screwed to cardboard.
This is a $900 speaker cabinet that was screwed to the trunk bed liner and was more valuabe than the damage to the car itself but the company decided that they didn't want to pay. Seems like they don't care who they rip off as long as they keep airing their flashy commercials and get people to switch to them if only for a little while.
Another thing I noticed about Mr C. Montalbano's estimate he put down $135.00 for parts and paint which I thought was pretty low since a year ago I bought the smallest amount of paint you can buy for my car and the hardener alone for the paint at NAPA was about $100 and the custom mixed single coat acrylic with no clear coat was also $80 and another $20 for primer. The damage to my car also included replacing some gaskets and the mirior. Now in my experiance the shop that does your car will charge you more than you would pay for parts or paint so I think this should have been more like $300.
All told this break in cost me a $900 cometition speaker box and a $500 deductable and I got a check for $342 from progressive which is great considering I have been thier customer for over 3 years and never filed a claim so I have basically given them about $4000 and gotten back $342 when I needed them.in other words I'm not in good hands.
