My wife back in 1998 went to a dealership with her then boyfriend. She agreed to only sign to use her car as trade-in and NOT to be liable for the loan on the new car. She can't remember where she signed or how many times she signed.
Well you guessed it the boyfriend stopped paying on the car and it got repoed. Credit Acceptance has contacted my wife about this several time over the 10 years this loan has been in defalt. Just recently they contacted her again. We have asked them for verification on the origional paperwork, but they won't provide us a copy. They don't report to her credit at all as being late or showing repoed.
When we tired to talk to them about getting a copy of the original paperwork they stated that that would be in violation of some law, and if we wanted a copy we would have to file a police report for fraud, and then after it is shown that she signed then the police would arrest her for filing a false report.
They keep telling us that they are going to start wage garnishment if we don't pay.
Have any suggestions?
