I bought a 1996 jetta from koeppel 13 days ago. The car only had 27000 miles and looked like new.
There were a few minor problems with the car nothing that i wasn't able to over look for a price of $1 after all the car booked for more.
The day i picked up my car, i walk around the car showed the problems to my salesman troy jackson. I was told that i could bring my car back at my convience to have the the car fixed.
As i was pulling out of the lot the owner mr. Koeppel himself noticed that one of my taillights was out, and once again assured me that i should bring my car back at my convience. I thought that was pretty honest.
I drove the car just a few blocks to a gas station, because everyone knows $12000 does not get you a tank of gas. Well it turns out the gas tank hatch is broken, so i called from my cellphone (not while i was driving) to inform troy and once again i was given the pitch. I took the car 250 miles to upstate new york last weekend and brokedown.
I pulled into a parking lot left the car for 5-10 minutes and when i got back to the car the battery was dead. It was 10 o'clock at night no one was at the dealership when i called, but not to fear i purchased roadside assistance, in an extended warranty.
When i spoke with a woman from the warranty company she suggested i just tow it to the dealership and they will fix it. When i explained i was 250 miles from the dealership she said "i'm sorry i can't help you".
I was extremly upset i had to call my family, travel 15 miles to a kmart to purchase a new battery, because the old one would not take a charge. When i got back to the dealership on monday september 18 i demanded my money back. I only had the car 12 days and here are a list of the problems i've had.
Blown headlight (replaced light out of pocket)
battery (left me on the side of the road for 1 hour)
rear defroster (strips do not work)
cig lighter (stuck in)
emergency brake (does not work)
blown taillight (still waiting to get pulled over for that)
radio (since the battery went dead it doesn't work)
shifting linkage (makes loud thud through every gear)
engine (idle jumps for 250 to 850 rpm)
floor mats (you would think $12000 gets you floor mats)
driverside door (drops when you open it, its not a big door)
dashboard (squeaks worse then a rusty hinge when driving)
passenger storage compartment (sitting on the floor)
antenna (not stock looks like it came off my 88 volks)
engine belts (squeeeak in the rain)
rear bumper
There are more problems but i think thats enough. Anyway they refused to return my money so i took my case to the streets. I wrote on my windows "koeppel is dishonest". After a few hours of sitting there and telling anyone who would listen, troy and another gentleman came out to talk.
They asked me if i would bring my car in the following day and they would fix all my problems. I really like the car and if it was not for all the problems it would be perfect, but it has alot of problems. So i brought my car back, a gentleman told me i needed to go to the service department.
The service department told me the next appointment available would be september 29th and my warranty is in question because their computer didn't doesn't show i have one. The car was bought on the 6th, my first call to them was on the 14th they said just bring it in. Now i'm told the 29th.
I'll keep this updated, if you would like to see me i'll be at koeppel vw on northern blvd in queens daily. Just thought the story needed to be told and all of you out there needed to be warned. Koeppel will take your money, give you a lemon and once the check clears forget they ever seen you.
