Mountain States Volkswagen
Disreputable, underhanded, manipulative ripoff

I leased a 2000 jetta from this dealership in 2001. The car came without factory warranty so I purchased an extended warranty. This warranty only covers mechanical problems and only those not considered to be normal wear, such as brakes, and routine maintenance. Since taking possesion of this vehicle, I have had to have the sunroof repaired twice, once costing me over $200. I have had the glove compartment door replaced twice at $150 each time, and the latch on the armrest compartment replaced twice for roughly $50 each time. Additionally, today, while the car was in the shop to replace the glove compartment door and the latch on the armrest, the dealership phoned to say that I needed new brake pads on the front of the car. I had the brakes replaced 6 months ago and instructed them to replace the entire brake system at that time. According to their records, they only replaced the rear brakes. That cost $500 and now I am being told that it will cost me another $500 for the front brakes. This car was taken to the shop today because it wouldnt start due to a dead battery. I am now also being told that the serpentine belt needs to be changed at a cost of $221 and thatthere is a faulty brake light switch that needs to be replaced, and are not sure if it is under warranty or not. These costs are above and beyond the $430 cost for the 40000 mile service. This car has cost well over $2000 in the last year for repairs that should not need to be done on a car that is this new and with this low milage. When I voiced my concerns at the dealership, I was informed that none of these repairs are under warranty and that the parts warranty on the replacement glove compartment door and armrest latch were expired. I then phoned the VW customer service department for the US and notified them of the problems that I had experienced and was told that there was nothing they could or would do about the car. I understand that occasionally, things may break and need to be replaced. I also understand that normal wear occurs and that it can be costly, however this car has 41550 miles on it. I do not see how all of these problems can be considered normal wear on a car that does not get driven very often. This vehicle had an original 16000 miles at the time that I leased it.

I am extremely angry and disappointed by this company and by this dealership. Every time this car needs any work, the cost has been a minimum of $500. This is unacceptable.
