I purchased a guranteed engine for my 2001 PT Cruiser from Deep Discount auto parts, AKA Pams Auto, off Ebay. The page on ebay said the motor had a one year parts warranty and had been tested for smoke and oil consumption. The ad also said the motor had a broken motor mount but had been welded.
When I spoke to them on the phone said I would have no problem with this. We went through a mess trying to get the payment through paypal because I had just moved and wanted the engine shipped to my new address but they had not changed the adress on my credit card yet so pams refunded payment to paypal which wound up locking up my credit card for a week because it looked suspicious.
I wound up buying the motor outside ebay. When I recieved the motor it would not turn over all the way. I called and they said it ran fine when it left there. I made sure timing marks were all lined up, Changed A broken cam gear, Changed plastic timing covers and finally a new timing belt. The engine still would not roll over all the way.
I finally removed the broken plastic intake manifold and found huge chunks of plastic wedged in behind most of the intake valves. They once again assured me that it would be fine, which I didnt believe, but thought I would not know for sure until it was in the car and running.
I went ahead and switched over all the acessories from my old motor such as the alternator brackets, manifolds, etc.
When I got to the motor mount I could not see where it was welded, Then I relized what had acctualy broke and been welded were both of the ears on the back of the block where the transmission bolts on, not the motormount. When I put the transmission up to the block, sure enough the ears were welded on a slight angle and do to the pressure the trans bolts put on the bend in it, it snapped the ear on the engine as I drew the bolt in.
Now I have well over 1000.00 invested in this boat anchor and they said they would refund the purchase price, but only after I ship it back to them. I would have over 500.00 in shipping alone. Besides how do you test run an engine with a broken cam gear, busted air intake, and big hunks of plastic behind valves and in cylinders? Because they gurantee it has been test ran and checked for smoke and so on. Yeah right. And the one year gurantee mystirously only said 60 day on the tag that came with the engine.
I guess I cant even bear to bring up other problems this has caused since the car is my familys main mode of transportation. Case in point, They could not have possibly test ran this engine like they said they had, They dont know what a motor mount is, They need to know that a 60 day warranty is not a one year warranty, They are just a huge lie as far as I am concerned.
