Okay, I don't even know where to start. My husband and I have been looking into buying a car for a few months. We are young college students with kids. We would be trading in one of our beaters and using a portion of left over Student Loan money to get the vehicle. We both work full time but have 4 young children. Money at times is a sparse commodity. Anyway we went to Joe Cooper Ford in Midwest City for a browse. Weren't exactly ready to commit to anything but just wanted to look. We where helped by an Amanda Knox. She seemed nice enough and we thought we had the trade and then we had money coming the next week that would be fine. Of course she couldn't get us into what we were looking at so she brought out this 2000 Ford Expedition. It's nice and seems to run but we both have long commutes and it already is over 100,000 miles. Well we have dings on our credit so we kind of have to take it up the rear and go on. We drove it but still weren't sure. She asked us about a downpayment. We were upfront and honest. We had the car to trade and money next week. "Oh that's no problem" She makes the 9 million trips into the sales managers office and says "that's great here's what we can do" Shows us payment's terms etc. Sounded good so we went for it. Well it came time to sign the papers and the finance manager asked about our downpayment. We said you already have our car and we will have the rest of the money next week and we specified the day. He said he had to have a check in hand to complete the deal. We said fine we don't have the money and we will just come back next week. They were persistant we not leave and said just give us your check and we will hold it til next week. Sounded good because we had done this before and nothing bad came of it. Now here is what 's happening. Of course the bank is not honoring a check they presented for payment because my balance wold cover just over 1/2 of the check. Duh!!! We told them... He calls and wants the money. I told him we will have it next week. He is talking now that we could be in forfeit of our loan... What? We told them and we were honest. We even got up to leave. Crazy thing is they had already made off w / our car that we were trading in. Can anyone help w / suggestions??
