My 18 year old daughter, without parent's guidance, purchased a car from this jerk, giving him a $750 cash down payment, only because that is all he accepts, and she financed the remainder balance, the payment due on the 30th of each month.
She drove it for one week, it broke down, alternator went out, was replaced by my husband and then 3 days later borke down again, this time the starter went out. My daughter called Jim to let him know the car was down and her payment was due that day and he told her no problem he would give her a week and a half to fix the car, sell the car and then pay the balance. He then contacts her 6 days later to ask about the staus and she told him it was still down and she still had it. So he told her he would do her a favor and come to her work to get her key and take his mechanic and look at it and get it fixed.
She called me to tell me and told me the plan and not be alarmed that the guy was coming to look at it but keep an eye on things. A few minutes later a tow truck pulls up and is hooking up her car. When I inquire what is going on that my daughter did not give permission for a tow, Jim shows up and informs me that he is repossesing her car, even though her payement was one week late and she still had a few days left per their verbal agreement, and he went on to make up a bunch of lies.
When my daughter called him to see what was going on he first told her she could get her car back for $200, her payment amount due, and an additional $85 for towing. When she argued with him that it was not fair, she did not agree to him "towing" it, he disonnected the conversation and when she called back he then gave her the offer of her car for $575 for repossing fees and towing.
No Way! Her dad and his friend went with her to talk to the guy and get her personal belongings out of the car, Jim got beligerent and denied that my daughter did not give him $750, but only $200 and would not give the car back without all kinds of "other" fees! They also found out that the title was not clean, as told when the car was purchased, but is salvaged, another big lie! What crap! He has taken advantage of a naive girl who trusted him and his "kind and generous" offer! She is not the first, apparantely, but our goal is she will be one of his last!
