Buyers beware of this man named ray...
Here is what happened. This is kinda lengthy, sorry for that, I just want to tell all of you what happened exactly and don't be fooled by people you believe are good without them proving it first. Sad but I try to not be that way, and if someone is nice you tend to think they are. Just ALWAYS be cautious. I live in the Show Me State. So they need to show me that they are truthful. But I am here to say I was taken, but I want to help others not to be.
See my husband and I wanted to buy a family member a decent car so we first looked on websites and found this website for Car Soup.
We found a car that was nice and the car dealer listed was #1 Car Sales and their website was linked in to Car Soup. #1 Car Sales had their vehichles on the carsoup website. Just like a private owner would if they were selling their car.
So that is how we found them. It went from there to calling the location and going to see what they had. Well the car originally was a Malibu. We went to look at it and it was pretty beat up. The front bumper was all smashed in and the headlights had condensation in them. We decided not to get that one.
We started looking at other cars on the lot, we looked at more than 7 vehichles. My family member was with us to make sure she would like the vehichle and she couldn't walk well. Well they pulled out all the stops. Really nice at first..
This man came to help us, said he was the father just helping out his son Ray. Well fine. They were real nice, they even brought a chair out to her for her to sit. I thought these people are really great. The mother was there also helping out, he had his 2 children running around so it looked very much like a family owned thing.
We did find something we liked and we wanted to hold it, we put some money down and were going to come back the next day. When we went in the office we were greeted with the owner Ray's wife in the office we were conducting business. She was NOT like the rest of the family at all. She was dressed like a prostitute and very loud and obnoxious. When they were writing up the paperwork, Ray messed it up and was going to rewrite it she started yelling at him that she would do it!
She started putting white out on a legal doc. Well he told her she couldn't do that. They gave us the paperwork and it looked like just something that he pulled off the internet. No carbon copies, just copies from his printer. This was not a reputable dealer, just a small time car dealer.
So what started out like a decent company, turned sour when we had to do the paperwork. Even with all that we did proceed. I know what you think. The car was a good car, I looked into consumer reports and car recalls. This car had none. So this is why I wanted to proceed.
Setting up a time to meet was horrible too. The day he said he would stay late turned out that he couldn't, so we made other arrangements. We got our own financing. Tg. We requested that his wife not be there and came to pick up the vehichle. I noticed it wasn't even washed which almost all dealers do when you buy a car from them.
I told him about that, and he had someone do a "Quick" rinse —He didn't have the money from me yet so he was going to do what I requested for the money. Not that that was a major factor, it is just a nice thing most dealers do.
When we got inside he gave us our paperwork, and told us that he would have the title to us in 3 Days, and also an extension in the mail just in case! Well being it was Sat. That means we would have it on Mon., well Mon was a holiday so that would mean on Tues. The 3 days sounded good and made us happy. So believing he would do what he said, we gave him the money and drove the car away. The car was sold As-Is, but with a 3,000 mile or 3 month warranty.
Well Tues. Came and NO title, No Extension Tags. WTF? So of course we contacted him direct. He said he mailed it out and we would get it on Wed. We never did. So 2 weeks passed by and no title and no extension tags. We called them the following week, week after week we kept on them. Also, we noticed the Check Engine light came on.
The 2nd week we called them on Mon, Ray said he mailed the title and extensions personally and we would get it on Wed. Well we didn't get it. We also told him about the check engine light, he said that it would clear itself up. Well we know that is not the case also. My husband has one of those things that hooks to the computer and tells the code. Well Ray said just tell me the code and we will do what we can to fix it. It was still under warranty so he should fix it right? Well..
So we called on Thurs. And some other guy answered named Scott, said he didn't know and we would have to talk to Ray. So on Fri I called him and he said he talked to my husband yesterday. Well yesterday my husband talked to Scott but he did sound like Ray but gave us no information.
Ray said he sent it out certified mail and we would get it Fri. Just wait for our mail, well when we got home from work we had a slip from the post office to pick up a letter. We thought okay finally something.
Sat morn. We picked up our letter. It was Just a title. No extension. So now we are really stressed because we needed the extension by the weekend for extra time in case we were not able to get everything done by 12. You know how cumbersome going to the department of motor vehichles can be. You need to have inspections, emissions, and also get in that office by 12. Plus with the check engine light problem, we couldn't get it to pass an inspection. So we had major problems.
So I contacted Ray directly at 10:30 am. No answer, finally got him around 11:15, I went on to tell him that he was putting my family under a lot of stress and we still had no extension and the check engine light was still on.
He asked his wife that was in the background if she sent out the extension, and she was screaming that she sent it out on Wed. What? He told my husband that he personally sent it out on Mon which means we would of got it from him. Now all of a sudden he says that his wife sent it out on Wed and we should have it in the mail today. Well he said that we should get it in the mail today. I told him I don't care what she says, I am telling you I don't have it and want this taken care of.
I told him that was too late, I wanted to take care of all this today, and he said that I was calling him a liar. Well he was lying. He told us he sent it out and we would get it on Wed. Now his wife sent it out on Wed and we would get it on Sat? WTF?
He told me that he respects all his customers until they disrespect him! I told him I am not getting any respect, and this is a problem that he caused, he told me it would be 3 days and it turned into over 2 weeks! He told me that he could just tell me to F-OFF! But he said " I am not telling you to F-Off, but I Could just tell you to F-OFF! And if you come on my property I will have you escorted off by the police!" He proceeded to tell me off, and I told him I want to come there today and get an extension. He was blaming us not getting it because of the mail. I told it is really nice when people blame things on others and don't take care of what they say. He said "You are calling me a liar and I don't appreciate that and I will not help you at all if you keep on"
I told him that I thought they were good people and that I was wrong. He was talking to his wife and trying to tell me that they had to figure out when they sent the information to us. (that they never did! Which is why I was calling) I told him that it will not matter when she sent it, if she did, because by the time I get it, it will have expired.
I told him I wanted to personally come there and get a new extension from him. I proceeded to tell him that the check engine light was still on and it was under warranty that he needs to fix it. He said his mechanic was not there today but we could bring it by any day except Tues and Thurs, I told him that will not work because I work everyday and I wouldn't be able to bring it in.
But I also couldn't trust a guy to fix something for me that just told me to F-Off either.
He said he get me an extension if I come up there today and that this conversation is over and he would see me later. And he hung up on me!
I was in shock to say the least, I never cussed at this man, nothing. I just wanted him to uphold what he said he would do. And luckily we can take care of everything else without his help. My husband is an excellent mechanic.
It started on Sept 30, and we finally got the title on Oct 14th. 14 days later! So much for his 3 days! But we still did not have any extension tags. And never any help from this man named Ray. Btw No Last Name.
