On Saturday Aug. 19, my daughter went car shopping at Dennis Dillon. I had told her that I would help her get a loan. On the evening of the 19th I helped my daughter negotiate a deal. I was told that I would be sent papers to sign. I received those papers on late Wednesday afternoon Aug. 22 and saw that the interest rate was 9.75% and that a loan had not been secured.
On Aug. 23, I went to Westmark Credit Union and found out that I could secure the loan at 6.25%. I phoned the number of the finance officer David Boorer and was told that I could not finance the loan through Westmark, but could sign the papers and then refinance with Westmark later. I was told that if they didn't received the papers within 24 hours of their receipt they would go and get the car from my daughter. I told them that would be their decision, but I would buy the car with financing from Westmark.
I asked to speak to Mr. Boorer's supervisor and was told that he would contact me. I later received a call from Joey Winters. He was not the supervisor, but he had been involved in making the financial agreement. I told Mr. Winters that I would bring a Westmark car check Saturday morning and pay for the car. Mr. Winters was in agreement with that.
On Saturday, Aug. 26, I arrived at the dealership with the check and met and with Mr. Winter. I was told that if I took out the loan and allowed my daughter to use the car, I would be in violation of State and Federal Law and would be in danger of serving time in prison. I told him that I had never heard of anything so ridiculous and that I would contact and attorney to make sure that I was not violation of any laws. He told me that he was not being ornery, but he was required by law to inform me of the law. I signed the financial agreements gave him the check and left. I again asked to be contact by a supervisor or manager and was told that I would receive a call first thing Monday morning. No call has been received.
