In February of we bought a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee from East Hills Jeep Chrysler. Ethel, our salesperson, was very accommodating. We really liked Ethel and her demeanor throughout the initial sales process.
It is the aftermath we are less than content with. Two days later, we had to return to the dealership to fill out the registration paperwork. This part of the purchase was truly a waste of time the registration paperwork could have been provided on the day we signed the paperwork or provided the insurance paperwork. As of today we have NOT even received the title for the car. Not to mention we did NOT receive our registration until AFTER the temporary registration expired so that was another 2 days we could NOT drive our car.
Nevertheless, we had to inconvenience ourselves drive back 13 miles to listen to another pointless sales pitch. That is where the extended warranty was offered - the guy first started at $1600 but somehow within 2 days the warranty price dropped to $800. If the price of our car decreased at the rate the extended warranty price was offered we would have had a better purchasing experience.
Fortunately, when the car was delivered - it was washed, waxed and vacuumed the car's appearance was pristine. Of course, our enjoyment was short-lived.
Within 2 months, we have had to bring this vehicle back for the following reasons:
-Check Engine light repeatedly turning on (went to the dealer at least 4 times to have this issue addressed)
-Brakes that pulsate or shake upon stopping (not due to anti-lock brakes) which after getting the work summary apparently was an issue with the previous owner
-Key remotes that only work within 6 feet
We understand that a USED car will have its issues. However, it has become rather frustrating to repeatedly go back for the same issues. Fortunately, all these mechanic difficulties occurred when we were close to home since we have a 2 year old in the car and it is scary enough being stranded with a defective car without the additional worries of how to get our child home unharmed.
When we returned to bring the car in for the 4th time and to discuss the mechanical troubles with Ethel and see what accommodations/reparations could be done none was offered. The response was they never encountered any situation like this and no extension of the warranty would be offered. Basically we were getting the "S.O.L." treatment.
In addition to the multiple visits to fix our vehicle - we have had the loose change (stored in the middle compartment between the front seats) stolen not once but TWICE (an additionl $20 out of our pocket since the dealership wouldn't return the monies.
Considering the premium price we paid for this vehicle and the fact that it was suppose to be a CERTIFIED vehicle from an Authorized JEEP dealer, we really did not anticipate having such difficulties so frequently and early on in the ownership. Our concern at this time is that once that warranty passes are we really going to have to pay for the inherent troubles this vehicle obviously has? The dealership only offered to extend the warranty by an extra month.
After four (4) visits to the dealership to fix the Check Engine Light problem, we have lost confidence in the integrity of the vehicle and the dealership that sold us the vehicle.
Considering all the aggravation we have had to endure of late due to this lemon of a purchase - I would definitely warn any future purchasers to watch your wallet at this establishment as they are less forthcoming after the check is cashed...
