Upon being contacted, my daughter was told she was approved for a new vehicle with no money down and set up an appointment to meet with Tabitha @ Mac Haik Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler. Since this was to be the first car my daughter was financing, we agreed to take her. Previous to going she took the time to fill out a credit application on the web through this dealership.
When we arrived at the dealership, Tabitha asked my daughter to fill out a paper application for credit and information report. Once complete, a sales rep. Named Shawn met with her and went over the amount she could afford (300-350/monthly) and then took her out to the lot to look at cars that fit her budget. She found one she liked and came back inside to start the paperwork. This is when it all went downhill.
Being a new buyer and not having a credit history established, Shawn explained the bank would not go above 14% of her monthly income, leaving her at a maximum of $210.00 a month for car payments. She was heartbroken, but understood. He told her he would see what he could do, and would be right back.
When Shawn returned he told her the only way she was going to be able to do this is use an employer different from the one she had listed on her application, At this time, Shawn proceeded to show her what he had done. He had crossed out the name of her REAL employer, REAL wages and REAL starting date and added a bogus company, bogus salary, and bogus start date that would look good to any bank. My daughter said, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! That is illegal and stormed off!!!
My husband and I were trying to keep our granddaughter entertained in another part of the dealership when my daughter came up fuming mad, telling us to get her the HELL-O out of there, that she would not deal with a company like that. We did not get the full story of what took place until we stopped to get lunch, or we would have spoke to this Shawn person, and retained a copy of the changes made to the credit application, but this did not happen.
First my husband called the dealership back and was treated like dirt and no one would listen. Upon cooling down I called them back and was transferred to a gentleman named Todd. I told him the situation and I would be back to the dealership in an hour to speak to him.
Once back at the dealership, we were met by a gentleman that asked if he could help us. I told him I was there to see Todd, and his reply was... Todd has today off!!! I explained to him that I spoke to "Todd" on the phone an hour ago and he had agreed to a meeting with us. The gentleman excused himself and went to speak to another man, then came back and told me Todd had left and I would be meeting with the Used Car Manager, Brian Rich and he would be with us shortly. Still wondering if this "Todd" is a real person or as bogus as the deal they were trying to put forth to my daughter!!!
Once we met with Brian, he told us he had been informed by Todd what took place and was very sincere in letting us know that this had never happened in all the years he had been with the company, that he would get to the bottom of it, and Shawn would be fired on the spot if it was determined that fraudulent activities were taking place within the company.
This is where it gets very suspicious. The credit application had... Hmmmmmmmmm... Disappeared... And the information report that my daughter filled out in "blue" ink was now replaced with a form that was not her handwritting and filled out in "green" felt pen. Once again we were reassured that this was not the practice of Mac Haik and matters would be looked into.
We left the dealership feeling things would be taken care of and this would not happen to someone else... Well, it seems like this is part of their mode of operation as I have read where this has happened before. They need to be stopped!!!
