I had purchased a fund raising card for area businesses. On that card was a offer for oil changes for $9.99 from Pep Boys. When I went to the Pep Boys on 28th Street in Grand Rapids I waited for about an hour for a oil change which the attendant assured me would be taken right away.
When I finally was told was that my car, a 2000 Monte Carlo with 55,000 miles on it needed a new tie rod. I didn't believe them so the Pep Boys Peon (PBP) asked that he show me the problem by taking a test drive. As I am driving down 28th Street the PBP told me that since I can feel a vibration or jump in the steering wheel as I drive over the potholes and seams in the road! Grand Rapids was named one of the 10 worst cities in the nation for road conditions.
The PBP told me that I needed to replace the tie rod immediately. I told them I was not interested in their service and asked for a print out of their estimate.
Their estimate did not even include the price of the part because they said that they did not have the part in stock and would have to order it. WTF, if they don't even have a clue as to how much the part is, do I trust these morons to install it? NO.
I'm still driving the car and the tie rod has not fallen off yet.
DO NOT let Pep Boys even change your oil for your car. They get in customers in with cheap oil changes so they can find a REPAIR to charge you with.
