I live in a town called Longview, Texas. I am deaf and needed a car so bad. I thought JDByrider would be a good company... I was wrong. They sure did take forever with the paperwork, we were there all day. First they said "Hey, 1000 down payment. 329.58 a month for a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier." Then after I signed the initial paperwork, they said they needed 800.00 more on the down payment. I should have walked out right then and there, but they offered me a deferred payment to get the 800 together. When I went into the office with Joe Partain, he flew me through the paperwork, signing this and that. Explaining (or so I thought) as I went along.
My friends and family said I should have had an interpreter with me to avoid being taken advantage of, but I didn't do that. I called myself being independent and going without one. Big mistake! Joe Partain took me for Foo-Foo the Clown, he knew I didn't understand him and that I was desperate. Now those people made arrangements for my insurance on the phone and the price was so cheap, I thought I sure did luck out. Took a few weeks to get my sticker and they kept giving me the cardboard tags to use over and over again. Still, I thought I had really lucked out. Until the insurance company started being so late sending me my monthly notices. I cancelled that company and went with another one, that's when the harrassing started. The letters, letters, letters from Partain telling I had lapsed insurance coverage and the company called them and told them I cancelled. Even though I made sure my new company faxed them the information with my new coverage with the new company... Partain still kept buggin the living daylights out of me.
After a while, I had a busted light that they repaired. Since they say I had to pay for it, I wrote them a check for it. When one of the mechanics said the work was covered in my warranty, I thought cool and cancelled the check I wrote them. For months, no one mentioned it... Just harrassing letters threatening me with repossession for lack of insurance and I was just as confused as all out heck! I went in to have the oil changed... Nobody said nothing about check or insurance. I go to make payments... Nobody said nothing about nothing. They just greedily kept taking my money. Partain kept calling my daughters cell phone, even in class, he was calling, bugging folks to death. He said I owed money, I was madddddd, but said ok, when I have it, I'll pay it. He knew I didn't work, and was on disabilty. He knew exactly how much money I got a month and I would not be able to fall down and worship at his feet with more money... So soon.
Welllll today, these so called business folks (modern-day CROOKS) had the nerve to repossess my car. The car I have been paying on for over a year... Paying 330 a month instead of 329.58... On time every single month... Paying early when the pay date fall on the weekend. They have a fit on people for being a day late, but all lusty-eyed on your money when you pay early! Their reason: a bounced check (the cancelled one) and not having FULL coverage insurance on the car. I said WHAT!!? You mean to tell me those greedy gut folks took my monthly payment with a smile on they face, then turn around and repoed my car. I had no idea my insurance coverage didn't satisfy those idiots, they never said a word about full coverage in all those letters, when they did (a week before) I said ok. It cost money to change my policy and I didn't have it. So I called the cops, they said car dealers usually take back the vehicle when you don't pay... But I have been paying, on time, and had the reciepts to prove it. They said as long as I had Texas required insurance, I was within the law and they shouldn't have done that. Cops said it was between me and them basically... So I blew a gasket. When I thought of that 1800 I got my lights cutoff to pay and that 330x13 months... My mind just popped a wheelie. I called my sister to come get me, she took me to that car lot, I located my car in the back, hopped in and drove off that lot... Yes I did! Nobody saw me or said nothing, but I got it hid until Monday when I go see the JP and Constable and by the time I am done, I shall own that car... Period. There are laws to protect the deaf and I am going to use them to bring Byrider in Longview... DOWN!!! I am going to the newspapers, tv stations, any and everybody I can. I am emailing the Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission... Shoot, the CONGRESSMAN! Somebody will sit up and say JD Byrider gots to GO!
