Lawrence Toyota, New Jersey
Ripoff brake wires cut by the dealer

New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Case#: 2003 120 40396

My Toyota Camry brake light wiring has been tampered with by the Toyota dealership in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The brake light wire was cut not only once, but also twice (two separated visits). This incident happened sometime in but the time does not matter. I would like to warn the public that what I~{! /~}ve experienced with this dealer.

Lawrence Toyota is the only dealership I go to for maintenance or service. The first time the wiring was cut, not only did the warning light on the dashboard light up, but also my transmission shift indicator on the dashboard did not work. I traced the wire to the trunk and was shocked by the discovery that the wire that was wrapped in the black insulation tape and the plastic sleeve was tampered with. A few wires were evenly cut and some were dangling. I reconnected the wires, which I shouldn't have done in the first place. This was a safety hazard and would have caused serious injury if the brake lights were not functioning correctly on the road.

The second time, the same thing happened again right after the car came back form the dealership. My warning light on the dashboard lit up again. I was very frustrated to learn that this happened again. There is no way I would sabotage my own car and nobody went into the trunk but the car dealership. There was no reason for the car dealership to go into my trunk in the first place. I even went into the car trunk to see if closing the trunk lid would have cut the wiring, but that was not possible as the wiring was in a plastic tube.

I informed the dealership and the Toyota headquarter but they did nothing. I contacted New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and sent in all the documents and pictures. A few months latter, they told me it will take more than six months to investigate and there is no way they will find out anything proving what they did. Case was close by New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.

I decided to break the silence and inform everyone on this web site. Is this the way that Toyota dealer tries to gain business from its customers?
