Sales Person Ken Culley ripoff sold car with hidden damage, was towed two weeks after purchase, lost thousands$ to dealership, when trying to return it a few weeks later

He saw me coming. Ken Culley saw in older single woman and completely took me for a ride. He is exactly the type of car salesman that give all of the rest of them a very bad name! I went to University Honda to purchase an Odyssy Mini van and left with a leaky, rusty 2004 Pacifica.

I told Ken Cully what I wanted when I arrived and he showed me the most expensive models of the Odyssy on the lot. He told me that the lower model that I wanted, was not currently available. "Just sold it yesterday.", but he did have something that I would love and brought the shiny black Pacifica around for me to see. I was taken by the looks of the outside of the car, plus I was told it only had "20,000 miles" on it.

It was a dry day and in short glance, things looked fine. I went to pay the $19,999 sticker price. They tried to sell me an extended warranty and I said that I couldn't afford it over the price of the car. I was told they could fit it in. So, I paid $18,364 for the car and $1,635 for the warranty... A total of $19,999. I was told that if the Pacifica did need to go into the shop, I would get a loaner car from University Honda.

When I arrived home, I realized that the odometer at 29,500 was actually closer to 30,000 miles. I trusted Ken's comment of 20,000 miles and didn't really think to look more closely before. When the rains began as they do so often in Oregon, I noticed leaking coming from many areas in the vehicle. Water was coming from the lining around the front window and when I would open either of the doors on the passenger side, at least a half pint of water would flow into the car. It was then, that I noticed the rust under both seats. Rust, so evident, that a service technician would notice when taking in the used vehicle. I wondered if the vehicle had been submerged in water. I spent $40 to order reports from Carfax and Autocheck, the only thing they showed were the original purchase dates in The Dalles, Oregon.

Two weeks after my purchase, the car died and I had to have it towed. Now I was stuck with an $80 tow bill and I headed to University Honda to get a loaner car so that I wouldn't be without one. When I arrived at the dealership, I was told that both of the loaner cars were out... Sorry, I was out of luck and without a car for two days. Something had gone wrong with the exhaust system.

On the 21st day of owning the car, my daughter went back to the dealership with me to trade the lemon in. When we saw Ken Culley who had sold me the car, my daughter immediately told him of the car troubles and that we wanted to trade the car in. We were given keys to test drive an Odyssy by ourselves. When we returned to University Honda, a different car salesman came out to work with us. We did not see Ken Culley again until the end of the second transaction. I'm sure that this 'changing of the guard' was some other tactic of the dealership.

In the end, they wouldn't take the car back for anything near the purchase price.in fact it was completely under the KBB price rating for a "fair" condition vehicle. I was told that the "Kelley Blue Book" pricing was incorrect.

The Pacifica was bought back as a trade in for $15,635. I basically spent $3,000 for the 21 days and 200 miles that I had used it. I wish I knew how to report this car to Carfax or Autocheck before they re-sell it to some other unsuspecting victim. The VIN# of this 2004 Chrysler Pacifica is 2C8GF68424R333432

This car should not have been sold with this much damage and when we tried to press at how they could sell it this way, the sales person would try to change the subject with a "Here sign this." or "That's the first one we've ever gotten in." No straight answers. Plain and simple, it was a dishonest sale and an expensive learning process for me.
