Well, at one point in time during divorces, my now husband and I had to go thru this sorry company - Ugly Duckling AKA Drive time, to get a vehicle because our credit was shot. We used the office in Arlington Texas.
We understood we were responsible to make repairs, maintenance on the vehicle and because we were in such sorry credit shape at the time, we were going to pay excessive fees and interest. We did what we had to at the time.
We bought a car. Paid good on it, paid tt&l, paid downpayment. About a year and a half later the transmission went out. We called them and told them we couldn't afford a new transmission & make payments so they should just come and get it. WE would do a voluntary repo. Clearly it doesn't make a differance, but still looks a little better that we tried to do the right thing.
The lady said she would set it up for pick up. About 9 months later and several phones we still had the car and it had not been picked up. My mother in law started receiving phone calls about this car!
They said they were going to file charges with the police saying we STOLE the car! How is that even possible? They also disclosed confidential and personal information to my mother in law and several of our refrences!
Finally at the end of 2000 we had gotten a date to come get it. They didn't show, I called again to come get it.in Feb they showed up and got the car. Several months later through now, they have misrepresented the dates of repo on our credit and claiming it was one date when it should have been Feb 01 (actual repo date) It was really behind & charged off sometime in 00. This makes a difference because it will fall off my credit later than it was suppose to.
I then disputed, and it was fixed. For some reason, every few months they revert back to indicating a different date, always one year later than the original "official" repo date. I don't have time to dispute my credit report every couple of months because they can't get it right.
I then got a letter from them outlining the dates of repo and charge off and it went along with mine.By this time they had changed their name, but on the credit it showed Ugly Duckling
I sent this to the credit bureaus. It was removed from our files.
Several months later it popped up again! I called & they would not help me.
I sent letters (to their collection agency) requesting the file, they sent back saying I needed notarized letters for the file. I sent that in and heard no response. I sent the letter drive time sent me and they said there is no drive time on my credit & they report for hundred's of thousand's of people every month and I am just stupid because why would mine be the only one screwed uP? Well maybe they do it to everyone or maybe we were the exception. I don't know but errors DO happen!
Finally we filed bankruptcy to clear this up and have moved on. But they are still reporting inaccurate information and they do take advantage of people in need. Usually there are reasons for deliquency. Usally there is issues beyond control. Why do they have to be so GREEDY and totally screw the person trying to get it back together?
They are trying to say we never filed bankruptcy! The court even sent them proof as did our lawyer.
