I took my car to Passport Motors to have the water pump and timing belt replaced. When the repairs were completed, the technician could not get the car to run properly. They then replaced the crank position sensor, engine and transmission control modules and still the car did not run properly. Their next target was the cam position sensor.
The repair bill was mounting and they clearly had no clue. I told them to stop. It cost nearly $2,600 to get my car back; the repairs were originally estimated at $600. The owner insisted on cash payment and threatened a mechanic's lein if I did not pay the bill.
I immediately took the car to a second shop. While on a test drive the timing belt installed by Passport Motors reportedly jumped damaging the valves. Both cylinder heads had to be replaced. When the engine was disassembled, they also found that the crank blade was installed improperly. That would have led to the crank and cam position sensor faults Passport Motors observed. The repairs at the second shop totalled $3,200.
Finally, after getting the car home, I reinstalled the original engine and transmission control modules. As I expected, they functioned perfectly and are still doing so a year later.
Passport Motors refused to stand behind their work. They have acknowledged no wrongdoing. A complaint to the Better Business Bureau was met with the following response "when... Vehicle left my shop it was running ok". This claim despite the audio tape of the car running poorly in Passport Motor's service department while I discussed the repairs with their service manager. The dated video I have of the car upon its return from Passport Motors also clearly demostrates the car barely ran, much less ran "ok".
Passport Motors is a ripoff. I have never encountered a business with a greater lack of integrity. If you choose to go there for parts or service, I hope your pockets are deeper than mine.
