Was in December of 1999 my wife and one year old son where in an almost fatal car accident. Our live's where dramatically changed in more way's then one. When I recieved the word I was working out of town and was notified and came home. First order of business was to get a rental car until our car was paid for by insurance and another one purchased. Even though this report isn't on a lawyer's office I must say, MAKE SURE YOUR LAWYER SPECIALIZE'S IN AUTO ACCIDENT'S!!! We pick up our rental auto from Watson Motor's in Poteau, Oklahoma. As I am driving it home with my children, the car stop's shifting and loses all gear's but first and reverse. I notify Mr. Watson and he casually pass's it off as me hotrodding the auto. I remind him he has rented me a car almost ten year's old and I am an experienced mechanic currently employed as a mechanic and this car is not shifting and is of high mile's. He asked me to check it out to see what is causing the car not to shift. Nothing easily fixable is apparent so I call him with the verdict on this auto. He then ask me to nurse it 15 mile's up the road to his place of business and he'll have me a car waiting. I proceed to his place of business at a top speed of 10 to 15 mph for about 15 mile's. When I arrive he inform's me that he does not have a car ready for me to drive. I am already a little on the frustrated and humiliated side and tell him I need a car because I am now stranded at his place of business. He inform's me he has a car but it is filthy and need's a really good cleaning. I told him I didn't care that I would take it. I took the car, cleaned the big stuff out and drove it for about 5 day's and when it was returned I walked in with the car key's and told him I was done with it. He had his secretary take down my information and he walked out to look at the car. He stormed back in and spouted off, that car is filthy, $50 dollar cleaning fee. I informed Steve Watson that the car was so filthy when I picked it up that he did not even want to rent it to me. He denyed it and would not budge on his decision. I later found out he charged everyone the $50 dollar cleaning fee regardless of the car's condition. So I must say if you ever get down in this area of the country and need a rental car, you should take if from someone who know's first hand, demand to be taken to an alternative car rental business.
