Ripoff lied, decieved, run around, shafted

My wife and I ordered an engine from ASAP in February, for our son's 93 Geo Storm. We did some shopping around, and they had the best prices, a good warrantee, and engines were of good qualtiy (we thought). First of all they quoted us the wrong price over the phone and when my wife asked them if they were sure that it was the DOHC and not the SOHC, they finally realized the wrong price and gave us the second price which was 100-200 dollars higher. That was fine I don't mind paying for what I am getting, the problem was that they were going to ship us a SOHC.

We ordered the engine on 2/10, after a week of calling everyday, and being given the runaround, after a week of them telling us every day that it would "ship today" they told us the reason that it was taking so long was that it was first tied up in accounting and then it was that they had palletted up a SOHC and realized it was the wrong engine. Fine, Just send us the right engine, and send it now.

Then we were told that because of the delay and other problems in the shipping ASAP said they would refund half of our shipping. When my wife talked to them the first time and insisted that they pay all of our shipping they would not. The next time my wife spoke to them about it, since they had not followed through, they told her that she had agreed to half of the shipping and that they had it recorded. Here is where the lies begin.

They then told us that we had to Fax them a copy of the shipping reciept before they would refund anything. I faxed it the next day, and nearing the beginning of April still have not seen that.

We finally received the motor on the 22nd of February, and gave it to our mechanic, to put into the car. We received a phone call the next day saying that the oil pan was bent and pretty much useless, so we needed to use the oil pan off of the old motor. When we called ASAP and finally got through the runaround this time they told us that it had to have happened in shipping and they were no responsible for it.

A couple of days later, we get another phone call from the mechanic saying that while they were putting the fly wheel on the engine, (and I may not be correct on the part name) and were trying to turn the engine by hand it would not turn, So we called ASAP again. The told us that they would have to speak to the mechanic so we had him call them. When we finally got back in touch with them, they said that they would fax us a return authorization and refund our money.

We waited for the fax at my wifes work for a day then she called them back wondering where this mystical fax was. They said that they had been trying to fax it but kept getting a busy signal. Fine, we gave them my fax number, which has its own dedicated line so there would be no busy signals and had to wait another day and had to call back to find out why they hadn't sent it. They needed the number again, because it "was probably on somebodies desk and they just hadn't gotten to it". When I finally got the fax I immediately had it signed and faxed it back to them.

On the 22nd of March they finally had it picked up to ship back to them, but they would not refund the money until it was back in thier shop. On Monday the 28th my wife called to make sure that they had the motor, and was told that they had it and had inspected it and found that there were metal shavings in the bottom and that they were not going to refund anything. They told her that the engine had been installed and run, which it had not. She asked them why she had to call them to find this out instead of them calling to ask us, and reminded them of the length of time that it took for the fax and their lack of communication abilities, and was told that if she wanted to know where something was that she should be calling them every 30 seconds of the day to find out. Basically implying that it was not their responsibility to keep the customer informed.

My wife called them back today to try and talk to Dina who is supposed to be a principle in this company, and Dina told her that, for better or worse we had purchased this motor, and they would dispose of it if we wanted them to or they would ship us back the motor, in either case we were stuck with it. So now we are stuck with a motor that does not work that we paid $600.00 for, $114.98 in shipping the first time, $150.00 in labor for the mechanic to tell us the engine was no good, and now another $114.00 to get it shipped back to us.

Dina also told my wife that she had recordings of my wife and the mechanic telling her that the motor was installed and run which she does not because it was never installed. This is the second time that that they have tried to intimidate us with "we have it recorded". So basically they are recording conversations without customer knowledge, or they are not really recording and saying they are, to try and intimidate people.in either case if they actually had recordings it would show that they are lying.

Do NOT do business with these people, first because they have no concept of customer service, we have been hung up on, yelled at, lied to, put off and in general given the shaft. Second because they just don't care, when my wife asked them how they could still be in business with 140 complaints with the BBB in the last 3 years, and 66 in the last 12 months, a slew of complaints on this site and 12 law suits, she was told that the law suits had been dropped and with the volume of business that they do these "few" complaints didn't matter. Finally because you really have no way of knowing whether or not they are sending what you need, or if it will be in good working order, in general they can not be trusted.
