Our vehicle has vibrations/thumping and at 70 mph is a definite and most annoying sound in the interior of the vehicle.
Before taking a road trip in early June I brought the vehicle in to the Firestone dealer where I purchased the tires, explained the situation and asked that they please check the tires to make sure they were properly balanced. I was told there would be a $50 charge to perform a road test to which I replied why should there be a charge for a road test? I received a tort reply to the effect of you want your vehicle fixed or not? So - - - I agree to pay the "ransom" and hopefully get the situation resolved. When I return to pick up the vehicle I'm told the tries weren't out of balance but that there was "tar imbedded in the tread" on one of the tires. The tech removed the tar and that was supposed to have taken care of the problem. Guess what? The problem is still there and I'm not about to go back and have to deal with the grump behind the counter and get charged yet another $50 or who knows how much to actually do something about resolving the problem. I'm no tire expert by a long shot but what I'm experiencing sure feel like a ply separation issue. So why won't they take the time to really look at what the actual cause may be.in hindsight I should have asked to see the "tar" they removed from the tread but I didn't.
They also performed a "courtesy check" with "recommended services" (tie rod ends, sway bar link, serpintine belt etc.) amounting to just under $1100. I declined all of that and immediately got a second opinion. Guess what? NOTHING needed to be done with the front end or belt.
All I want is to have the @&^%! Tire prolem resolved to MY satisfaction without any further cost out of my pocket
