I just want to warn those of you that plan to apply to work in management at Dollar General. Please, for the sake of your sanity, DON'T! If you want to work in management, do it elsewhere.

I was hired as a keyholder earlier this year at $7.50 an hour. It was my first management position and I was excited for the chance to gain experience. It turned out to be one of the worst choices i've ever made.in the interview, they were straight-forward about what my responsiblities were and kept emphasising how EASY it is to be promoted. So, for the first week or so, it was an enjoyable experience. But then the manager got sick, and that's when all hell broke loose. As it turns out, the whole damn district was in such a chaotic mess that they had me opening and closing two different stores and not bothering to tell me what my schedule would be. This was fine for a week or two, but when it looked like NO end in sight, I went to the district manager. He did NOTHING but made me promises. Here I was, barely knowning what I was doing, working nearly 60 hrs a week! I finally quit when after it started taking a toll on my health (because not knowing when i was working, I had to eat out/junk food) and my relationship. Keep in mind, I don't blame my immediate managers... They had their hands full too. However, upper management needs to remember its employees and GET ORGANIZED!

Again, please don't work for them... You might not get your sanity back!
