We cleaned the restraunt for three days before opening & were told we were only getting paid $2.55 an hour so I called Labor Board, I couldn't file a claim because I was still employed & could get fired, pay day was every 2 wks. So I figured I would wait I allready didn't think I would stay there.
The day it opened it started, every day, many times a day, servers were verbally abused in front of customers. Many of us even cried in front of them. My last day there a customer came in & was brought to the station by one manager (he couldn't understand her) all she wanted was 3 sweet teas. I gave her ticket to her and the manager walked her back to the register. She took her ticket with her apparently.
The next morning I was told not to come in unless I paid the restraunt $40 for the missing ticket. They said they could take it out of my check. I said no I wouldn't be back.
I called the U.S. Labor Board, they contacted the restraunt and informed them they couldn't take money from my check & had to pay us min. Wage for cleaning. The other girls working there kept in touch with me & told me they were not going to comply with the labor board, & the abuse was getting worse. So I decided to hold a picket. My signs said I was verbally abused and unfair labor practices. I did this one whole day.
I went to pick up my check & everyone got pd. But me. A couple of the servers called me & told me the reason was they took the $40 out of my check & Monica (manager) wanted to be there. The labor board called them but they had to cut me another check and I would get the min. Wage next pay day.
The next pay day I went to get my check & it wasn't there! The next day Monica didn't show up, by this time 7 servers had cotacted the labor board. Day 3, Monica was there but, they refused to pay me or refund me for uniform that they took out of our checks. I came prepared this day, I had new picket signs & I called the local newspaper!
I was out there maybe 10 minutes & one of the owners came out there called me a crazy bitch told me to get away & threatened me. Monica ran outside & stopped him & told me we all would get our money & bring our uniforms.
A couple servers came with me, we got our money, but we were all shorted on our checks! By this time I was too tired & said forget it!
I recently found out that they did pay everyone that quit even the girls they tried not to pay for training.
I have never gone through something like this or been treated like this none of us have! They have six other retraunts in Tn. & I can only imagine how many others went through this & did nothing!
