Ripoff/helped to bounce checking account

After paying with check for a purchase I made the prior day and realizing the check would bounce, I arrived at Reubens Rest. The following morning at opening and asked to pay for my purchase with cash. The employee working the tables said this would not be a problem and the chef in back confirmed that the check would be ripped up.

Days go by and I go to the Alaska USA to deposit some money for a check written the day before so that check does not bounce either, and had called the member service center by phone recently and was told I had a small balance of 7 cents, but was NOT told I was facing bounced check fees with the bank, etc. While at the bank, I try to desposit $28 to cover a check from the previous day, and instead the banker takes all that I have, $36, and DOES NOT EVEN TELL ME WHY! All she does is laugh, "Ha ha ha, I have to take all your money, now you only have 95 cents left."

Later this same day, I check my post office box to see the mail from the bank about the Reubens bounced check and two others that have also bounced... Why wasnt I informed!? This creates frustration as I have just walked across the entire town of Kenai, and now will have to do it again as I do not have a car or a drivers license. Not to mention a sick pregnant girlfriend who needs my attention and I work night shift, but I am forced by the confusion to walk to the bank and Reubens and ask for an explanation.

Reubens manager looks me in the eye and says she ripped up my check herself, and at best will only be able to refund me their $24.10 mistake. The bank tells me its my fault and the assistant manager for the Kenai Alaska USA is rude, unassuring and really helps me get no where. I ask where my visa check card is that I ordered almost two months ago and she has no explanation. I tell her to cancel it anyways, since this is the worst thing to happen to me all year, and she refuses to help me cancel my card.

She tells to come back Monday morning even though she has no explanation for why her employees did not inform me of the trouble with my account when I just opened this checking account earlier this year, and have never had a checking account, but I have been banking with them otherwise for years and years.

I now realize my biggest mistake in life was opening a checking account with Alaska USA and dining with Reubens International Restuarant. I have NO IDEA how I will be able to account for three other bounced checks and my reputation is now damaged beyond repair in this small community. No thanks to alaska usa and reubens restuarant. No thanks at all.
