He started working at Pizza Hut on October 23,1996. He was very happy working 20 hours per week. He was a great dishwasher, and did his job well. He moved out on his own, since he was able to pay his own bills. He never called out sick, and only took a one-week vacation per year. His life was wonderful.
Last year, his hours were cut down to 6 per week by the new Manager. He was still happy working at Pizza Hut even though his only raises were when minimum wage increased in Florida. But he still paid his bills, and got another roommate to help cut rent costs.
On 11/29/08, Pizza Hut informed his Job Coach that today would be his last day. They have no use for a dishwasher anymore. Pizza Hut would not tell him that 11/29 was his last day. They wanted his Job Coach to tell him. No goodbye, or sorry, or even a thank you.
Today, 12/2/08, he was told that he no longer worked at Pizza Hut. He cried, and kept asking what he did wrong. He was told that a new owner has taken over, and he needed to make changes.
The only employee let go from this Pizza Hut was someone with Developmental Disabilities. This same owner has a history of taking over Pizza Huts and terminating only the Developmentally Disabled. It happened last week in Sarasota, Florida. Another person with many years of employment was terminated by the same owner as the Pizza Hut in Venice.
