I parked my car in the Jack in a box parking lot at the border just to walk to the trolley station to give my mom her papers. 5-7 minutes later I return to see my car hooked onto the tow truck. I told one of the guys it was my car they were towing and he said I couldn't park in the parking lot without being a client. The other guy (Driver) told me he'd unhook my car for $75. I told him that was too much and so I offered him $40 to let me go, but he said he couldn't. Finally he agreed to $50 and I asked him if I could use my credit card since I didn't have cash. He said okay, called his company and ended up charging my card $75. I told him no way. We agreed on $50, and then the manager of the Jack in the Box Marcos showed up to tell me about the rules. I told him I was about to get some food since I drove from OC to SD and I was hungry from the long drive, but he said that was everyone excuse. I approached the driver and I told him to cancel the transaction. He refused and the manager "Marcos" said he'd handle the tow truck company if I went to the ATM to get some cash. I ran to the ATM pulled out money and when I got back, Marcos quoted me $80. I said no way, $50 was the fine, and then he said okay since he already spoke to the company about the reversal. I paid the driver and then they went inside to get something to eat.
I personally think this is an abuse. I felt threatened and ripped off. I had to pay because I was desperate to drive back to Orange County and I obviously needed my car. I made sure to call the company to ask if I was going to be credited the $75, and the dispatcher said yes I'd be reimburst.
These guys are fishing for people to drive into their lot. I take advantage of any opportunity to get your money. Especially if you pay cash. I dont know if there is really anything I could do about this, but I think its bull for being tagged for just a 5 to 7 minute park.
If anyone has any info on our parking rights, please let me know because theres got to be some type of law to protect us on this kind of abuse. I cant believe they dont even give you the time to get yourself situated before eating in their restaurant. I had to go to the ATM anyways to pull out cash, and even if I did for food, Id be towed before even having a bite to eat. Id understand if we left our car parked for 30 minutes or more, but for 5 to 7 minutes, thats taking advantage of potential clients, and converting them into victims.
Shame on you Marcos. Marcos is obviously the creator of this common problem.
