Our experience began pleasantly as our server was very prompt and polite, engaging us in light conversation and taking our order in a timely manner. Our appetizer, (spinach and artichoke dip) was delicious! The downfall, however, was the 7oz. Steak and the broccoli from the 2/20 menu. They were not cooked to order and definitely did not have the texture or taste of any kind of meat I've ever tasted. Both of us had identically shaped, rubbery looking pieces of meat with equally identical grill marks, as if it was pre-formed and showed up at the back entrance in a giant barrel of salty brine then dipped out, microwaved and placed on a plate under a heat lamp. The broccoli didn't taste right and had brown edges, as if freezer burnt. The mashed potatoes were tasty, but its difficult to tell if they were freshly made, or not.
If I return to this establishment, (and that's a big IF), I will order a salad or sandwich, which is difficult to get wrong and hopefully tastes like what it really is!
I very seldom complain, but I think Applebees should pay attention to these complaints and either improve their steak experience or remove it from the menu and just become a salad and sandwich spot.
