Yesterday, I received a phone call from Everest Consumer Services stating there were a credit enhancement service and they had got my information from denied visa / mastercard application which they in conjunction with visa/mastercard would help to get my credit back on track.
They said the minimum credit limit was $2400 and I would only have to pay a one time fee of $299 and I would have no additional fees ever. That did not sound right and I asked a lot of questions which they answered but I could tell they were getting a little agitated.
These operators are really slick they had the recording and a verifier. I was uneasy about the whole account verification issue and told them I would not give them my account number over the phone. They even had my routing number at Wachovia and started reciting the beginning of the account number. The catch was they would ask you to verify what they just said and automately, like a big dummy, I gave them the corrected number.
I was given a confirmation number and a customer service number to call which I wrote down. Since I was in my car, I couldn't access the internet immediately. They stated that once you receive the card you could go to any ATM and withdraw the $299 and therefore paid nothing. Yeah, right! If this was legit you would be paying a bill for the $299 you withdrew from the ATM.
Anywho, after researching the venue they told me to check no listing anywhere at the site, I found this website, did a quick browse to confirm my suspicions, I immediately call the telephone number and surprise it was not valid. I then called my bank and closed my account and opened a new one.
I am patiently waiting for them to call back October 6th to find out why the ACH transaction was not honor. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice and you will surely pay... I knew better and still got caught in this trap fortunately, I knew what action to take to save myself a lot of heartache. I work too hard and being a sole-parent place priority on finances. Hope this will give others a heads-up.
