Everest Consumer Services tried to rip me off

On 09SEP2004 I received a call on my cellphone from ECS. They told me that they received my rejected credit application from MasterCard, but that they could guarantee me a MasterCard with a $2500 limit.

They told me that they were a credit rebuilding service. They told me they would consolidate my bills into one low monthly payment.

They waived all of their fees eccept for their one time lifetime membership fee of $299. They asked for my bank account number. I gave it to them because I know there's nothing they can do with the account number alone.

The girl I spoke to transfered my call to a "verifier" (closer if you've ever done sales) who tried to verify my information and get me to give spoken, recorded conscent for them to withdraw $299 from my account.

At that time I asked the "verifier" to send me literature about the company and what they do. He actually became irate. He said he couldn't send that information and that it costs $299.

I asked what bank gave him my file. He said he didn't have it on the computer at that time and that it was up to ME to remember who turned me down within the past year.

I, actually was NOT turned down by MasterCard within the last year... I hadn't even applied. Well, I asked the "verifier" once more for literature on ECS only to be told, angrily, that he would attach my request to my file and give it to his manager.

He realized I wasn't falling for his scam and quickly concluded our call. Another one bites the dust. Please don't fall for this scam.

If ANY company refuses to send you literature about what they do or asks you to verbally authorize (on tape, no doubt, so they can rip you off more than once) withdrawals from your bank account, reject their services... It's a SCAM.
