I was referred to use the tax services of Karen Chagnon by a boyfriend at the time. I used her services for two years while I was in college. I thought that this would be a reputable service, but I was wrong. She is very friendly and kind, but has no idea how to file taxes. After leaving her office and looking over the amount of my refund, I always felt as if "something wasn't right." I should have followed my intuition. I thought that my refund checks should have been a bit larger than the figures she came up with. After I graduated from college, I learned how to file my own taxes with the help of Turbo Taxes. Out of curiousity, I decided to go back to the tax preparations that Karen did for me. Let me just say that I was furious. This woman did not give me any tax credit for being an independent, full time college student (which I believe was a $1500 credit at the time), and she did not include interest that I paid on my student loans. I tried to have the taxes that she did for me corrected, but it is a long, tedious process to go back and "refile" taxes that have already been processed. Do not use this tax service company. I recommend using the online services of Turbo Taxes. If you do not feel comfortable filing on your own, go to H and R Block or Hewitt Jackson. I would not recommend using a small, local, and unknown business.
