Severe Harassment By Direct Merchants Bank Over 1 Missed Payment

The harassment from this company started approximately 3 weeks ago.in the early morning hours starting at 8 AM, representatives from this bank would call and ask to speak with my father, who has the account with them. He explained to them very nicely that they would receive their payment, and we assumed that was the end of it. The phone calls kept coming.

On a daily basis, this bank contacts my home to speak with my father 5 or 6 times, and I am fed up. 2 days ago, I actually wrote down the time increments that the phone calls were occuring, and to my horror, we received 5 phone calls in les than 2 hours!!! What in the world is wrong with these people? They have called and woken my 1 year old son up every morning for the past 3 weeks. Then, they have the audacity to question who I and my mother are when we answer the phone.

Well, yesterday morning, I had enough of it, and as I was sitting down to give my son his breakfast, low and behold, the phone rang at 8:25 AM. My mother answered, and when she saw who it was on the caller ID, she just hung up the phone. 6 minutes later, the phone rings again, and I answered it. A gentleman on the other end asked to speak with my father, and I asked him what it was in regard to. He said "bank business", and I said "At 8:30 AM, you are calling to speak to my father about a debt?!" He says "Sure, sure." I replied, that I was sick of his company calling and harassing my father and waking up my household every day and that if they could not contact him at a decent hour, then not to call. He asked me if my father had left a message for his bank, and I told him no, but that I had a meaage for him and his bank. I told him that if they called my house again that they would here from an attorney on our behalf, and I hung up the phone.

I did not receive any more phone calls at all yesterday after I threatened them with a lawsuit, and I figured they got the point and that would be the end of it. To my surprise, they had the gall to call yet again this morning at 8:09 AM. I have had to start taking my phone off the hook, just so that my son can sleep uninterrupted, and I am sick of this shit! All this harassment over 1 missed payment does not make sense, and something needs to be done about these people! No one should have to be afraid to answer the phone in their own home, and no one should be harassed like this. I am prepared to do battle with them again, since they have obviously ignored our wishes not to be contacted. I am by no means in charge of my father's finances, but I felt the need to try and put a stop to this harassment, because he and my mother are being too nice about the situation.

I am really at my wits end about what to do about these people. I ahve read numerous other complaints about this company "losing" payments and charging horrendous late fees, and frankly, I am appalled! I will be advising my dad to pay this credit card off and not deal with this bank ever again.
