Complaint / Review
Camco, Capitol Acquisitions And Management Corp
Ripoff, unlawful collections

I received a phone call from a Mr. Jack Slone stating that he was a collections officer and was wanting to make a settlement for an old credit card debt. He stated thet the credit card was a First Bank Visa card and the original debt dated back to 1982. He said that they were willing to dismiss the debt for the original principal of 479.46. I reminded him of the Bankruptcy. He then further reduced the sum to $311.65. I told Mr Slone that this debt was dismissed in a bankruptcy in 1982 and that his call was unlawful. As I didn't want to compromise my credit that I have worked so hard to build up since 1982, I told him I would check out his claim.

Five days after the phone call I received a letter telling me I owed $843.22. I was still investigating this problem two weeks later when I received another call from him. This time the amount was reduced to $300. Not wanting my credit destroied we said we would pay the $300. He did not want to deal with a credit card but wanted payment over the phone. A telophonic check was issued for three hundred dollars.

I got onto the internet and managed to find this site. After I read a few statements from others that had had bad dealings with CAMCO, I realized I made a big mistake. Camco was called back and we told them of our decision not to pay them. We told them a stop payment was going to be issued on the check and no payments were to be made to CAMCO. We were forwarded to a Ms. April Datus that after hearing about the Bankruptcy stated "We don't want to risk a lawsuit for $300."

She told us to contact a Mr. Jeff Stein at (877) 298-0845 ext 1118 to descuss this with him. She said this is the man that could dismiss this debt.

I have since composed two letters. One is a cease and desist letter explaining what would happen if they continued with the harassment. The other was a demand to Mr. Jeff Stein to remove this case from their system and label it settled. Both letters stated that a lawsuit would be filed if any further action continued.

Stay tuned to find out what happens.
