I was contacted by Camco today regarding a debt incurred by my long-time (since 1988) ex-husband. He apparently ran up a debt with Chemical Bank in 1986 and they've been chasing him since. I did not sign any agreement with Chemical Bank requesting a credit card nor did I have knowledge he did so until now.
This company told me I am responsible for his debt and when I tried to explain that the ex never lived here or had this telephone number, they said it does not matter, I'm responsible. The woman who called, Mrs. Montgomery kept accusing me of threatening her and screaming at her although she refused to even hear me out.
I contacted the Ri Attorney General's Office Consumer Protection Division and they told me to send them a certified letter requesting proof that I owe the debt and to tell them to stop, cease and desist calling me until they can furnish such proof. I will continue to post my progress against these worms.
