In 1998 things were going good, I was about to be married and at 23 had just been approved my first "home" loan. Little did I know that the day I signed those papers on a 1998 Fairmont manufactured home I was in for one hell of a roller coaster ride with this company.
The home was delivered in Oct of 98. Right from the get go we had problems. The furnace went out after 18 months, the carpet started to come unglued, you could see lights through the wall seams. I took this all up with the sales team where I bought the home and was advised to contact greenpoint. WOW! You would have thought I had declared world war 3 on these guys I was told to suck it up, I was told that what could I expect from a 28 x 36 manufactured home. Nothing like feeling a little misled.
Then in Oct my husband was taken from us in an auto accident. This left me and our 7 year old son basically broke and in limbo to say the least. Fortunately he had insurance on almost all the other loans but as you would know NOT greenpoint. From the time I notified them that he had passed and I was trying to get my self in order and I would begin cathcing up asap, I have had nothing but problems... I was given an extension in Feb and then told about a year later that a partial payment was due in Jan... No one told me that when i signed the ext papers. Then in Sept I feel behind again and tried to catch up unsucessfully and was contacted by a kelly at the michigan office and told that unless i signed a voluntary forclosure form that someone would be out to my house asap.
I refused and when explaining why i had feel behind again and that I was still trying to catch up from my husbands death she told me well thats not my fault. Wow... I contacted the regional manager in michigan and was told oh well heres an extension and lets try again... No apologies nothing... To this day I still recieve phone calls from them asking for my hsband. I have sent them around 5 certified death certs and yet they still ask for him... My son LUCKILY has never answered the phone when they ask for his deceased father... After repeated attempts to get them to stop i finally gave up and threatened them that if my son ever gets upset by there company they will have one pissed mom on their hands...
I have been making at least the minimum payment and live on fixed income and am repeatedly asked well cant you afford the house? I know it is companys policy to get their money but when do clients stop being people and become a target for the collection agents bad hair day! I just hope that all of you out there dealing with greenpoint continue to stand up to them and not let them steal your dignity as well as your home!
