First Merit Bank - Account Rip-Off

This is a description of how First Merit Bank will steal money from your account with them. I have a couple of Bank accounts with different Banks and one of them is with First Merit Bank in Ohio. When I opened the account with First Merit Bank I was told there would be no fees of any kind with this account type for checking and savings by the Manager who opened the account for me. Since I have more than

One account with different Banks, I opened the First Merit Account mainly for depositing local checks. Everything seemed OK with the account until recently. I had a savings account balance and checking account balance, but I don't use the account much, just an occasional local check deposit.

What happened was that since I hadn't been withdrawing any money from either account, I had not paid much attention to the balance in the accounts. When I checked the balance today I found that they had entirely wiped out my savings account with fees and they are in the process of wiping out my checking account with fees. What they did was to upgrade the accounts without my permission to an account type that has fees attached to it so they could extract money from both accounts.

If they did this to me you can bet they are doing it to other people. First Merit Bank already has a class action suit against them for other scams with overdraft fees and I think this is another area where a class action suit would be in order. If they won't make this right I'm going to picket the Bank ultil they do make it right and also contact a Lawyer.
