I purchased a 2010 Chevy Malibu 4/6 @ that time I had my vehicle insured by American Freedom Insurance Company. On July 18 my 17 yr old daughter was involved in a minor fender bender while drivng my car.
I contacted American Freedom's claims dept and they sent me out paper work in which i had to return before August not sure of the exate date of 2011 & provide two estimates along with pictures of the damage from repitable aotomotive repair companies in which I did.
A rep from American Freedom had called and spoke with my daughter about the accident, they asked her how often does she drive the vehicle, does she have keys to the vehicle, can she drive without permission, and does my car stay over night anywhere else besides are home address. ALL the answers to their questions she told them NO, which are the truth.
I started calling American freedom once a week to make sure they didn't need any thing else from me and to make sure my claim was not just sitting on anybodies desk. I would get the run around every week. Finally on August 30th a rep called me to ask about one of the pictures that had been submitted. I answered her question & asked how long would it take she said that the appraiser had it and it would not be much longer.
Well, yesterday September 6 I received a phone call from the same rep telling me that before they send me a check I would first have to send them approximately $845, which is the cost to have my daughter insured as a driver of the vehicle.
I was UPSET! They are trying to have me pay them in order for them to up hold their end of their contract and fix my vehicle. My daughter was NOT a regular / everyday driver of my vehicle. She only used it for necessities. She would no go further than miles from our home nor did she have it more than an hour to an hour & a half when she did drive it.
Out of the 3 months I had had my car before the accident she may have only driven it 6-7 times. Not without me knowing, not without my permission & on the day the accident happen she had driven to her high school to do a schedule change which the school is only 5 miles away if even that.
American Freedom is trying to get out of their responsibilities. I'm sick of the consumer being RIPPED OFF by these jack legg companies. They are always wanting their money but when it time to pay out it's a different story. American Freedom should not be allowed to get away with unfair practices!
