WARNING - If you are considering accepting a Merrick Bank credit card, READ ALL OF THESE REPORTS FIRST!!!
These lowlifes will fleece you, they will trick you, they will lie to you, and all the while their totally pompous customer service reps will treat YOU like the dirty, rotten, filth that THEY are. BE ASSURED that ANY person that works there is FILTH! They KNOW what they are doing to people, they take advantage of people already having a difficult time in life, JUST READ ALL OF THESE REPORTS. I went through a bankruptcy back in the early 90s, about a year later, I was offered a Merrick Bank credit card, with a long explanation of how they would help me re-establish my credit. I accepted the card and paid my bills on time, every month. After having their card, in good standing, for over 10 years, I moved to another state and changed my bank account to another bank; however, I forgot to change my bank information on the Merrick Online Payment setup. I made a payment and then received a notice that it had been refused by my old bank. I immediately called Merrick and told them what happened. Here's where it started to get ugly!
First, I immediately paid my payment by phone, but was told there was a 39.00 late payment fee, then there was another charge of 39.00 for a returned check fee, even though I paid online. I asked the rep if there was anything she could do because it was an honest mistake and the VERY FIRST time I had ever been late. The disgusting customer service rep and her NASTY attitude said she could not do anything and I would have to write a letter to customer service, which I immediately did. About 45 days later, I receive a letter stating that they would not refund the charges, and that they would do NOTHING to assist me with this matter.
About a year later, I get a notice that my rate is going up to 29%, yes you hear right 1% from 30% of every dollar will now go directly to them. I immediately closed my account, but they still changed my interest rate to 29%. I have been making regular payments since that time. I finally got to a point where I could make multiple payments a month, and then found out about their other SCAM.
Merrick has their online scheduled bill pay set up so that you can only make MINIMUM payments, you CANNOT pay extra, it will not accept ANYTHING BUT THE MINIMUM. So then I tried making an extra payment on top of the scheduled payment by making a ONE-TIME payment, Merrick has their bill pay set up to CANCEL YOUR NEXT SCHEDULED PAYMENT, this is just WRONG! Come on, there is only one reason they have it set up this way!!! Why do they make it so hard to pay them back? This is just so they can string you along and STEAL FROM YOU!!!
This is PURELY predatory practices, and they are getting away with it!!! This is because they are paying THIEVING LOBBYISTS (WITH OUR HARD EARNED MONEY BY THE WAY) to carry their torch to our wonderful politicians.
Wake up america - these people and our politicians are stealing us blind - wake up before it is too late!!!
