I received a call at my workplace on Monday, August 22 from a gentleman identifing himself as Andrew Whitaker from Case Lowe & Associates. He informed me that he had two criminal complaints that had been lodged against me by his client. One was for fraud and the other was for failure to return disaster relief funds that I had obtained illegally. When I questioned him further he told me that I owed his client a large sum of money and that if I was willing to "settle" before 1:30 ET today, he would work out a deal with the creditor. I denied the whole thing and then he proceded to provide a lot of personal information, insisting that I was the person he was looking for.
I acutally started to doubt myself. I've been working hard to improve my credit rating and started to think that maybe there was something in my past that had come back to haunt me. However, I could not for the life of me remember having anything to do with an organization called the National Assistance Fund. Even during the bad times when I debased myself and had to use those payday loan blood suckers, I was sure I had never, ever heard of these guys.
So I asked for documentation. He insisted that they had tried to contact me several times and that I never responded. I insisted that I had never received any such correspondence and then found out that the zip code they had for me was incorrect. So I demanded that he send me documentation. He finally handed me off to a "supervisor" who proceeded to get really nasty. I told this guy that I was Googling his company as we spoke and found a lot of people who had lodged complaints and then he really turned on the mean. I again insisted on documentation - told him that if he was a collection agency he was breaking the law by harrassing me at work and hung up on him.
I've contacted my credit union, my boss and my family. I'm afraid if they had so much personal information on me - they may try to get at me through another avenue.
These people need to be stopped.
