On 4 Chris Wallace with Copeland Law Firm contacted my mom. He told her that I owed a debt to Ace Cash Advance $642.00 and that I wrote a bad check. He threatened to have her summons to appear in court and that she was listed as a guarantor on the loan which was a lie and a attempt to intimidate her.
This is a violation of the fair debt collection practice act. A creditor/debt collector is not allowed to disclose any information to anyone other than the person they are collecting against except their name and their company's name if asked. When I contacted this Law Firm the woman that answered was extremely rude. She was loud and disrespectful. I told her the call was being recorded and I asked her if their normal collection practices is to break the law and disclosed information and violate rights of individuals. She hung up the phone. When I called back twice more I was asked why I kept calling and I was hung up on. When I asked for their address to have them served by the courts I was told to look it up.
Its funny when I contacted them and they found out they were being recorded and I knew my rights they no longer wanted to talk to me. They should know to follow the law when collecting debts and that not all of the people they are collecting against are uneducated.
