Ripoff deceptive advertising by mail, refusal to refund

We received, by mail, what appeared to be an offer for a credit card. Lowell, my partner, returned the application with a check for $37. After several weeks, we had not heard anything from the company. I looked it up on the internet and found this ripoff site, as well as the home site for the company, which, surprisingly, is not a financial organization at all. I e-mailed Credicorp, chastizing them for their methods and requesting our money back.

I received a reply, telling me to supply our mailing address and check would be returned. I did so. Then I received another e-mail informing me that the "membership package" - not the money - was on its way. I replied that we don't want the membership package, we want the money.

The company replied that I must await the arrival of the package, then return it for refund.

I have notified them that the money had better be returned ASAP and, if not, I will contact attorneys general, BBB's in the three states we have lived in during the past year, as well as keep in touch with this ripoff site. Also informed them I will return their package IF it includes postage-paid, convenient mailing apparatus.

Yes, it was stupid on our part. But these scams are becoming more prevalent than good business practices, and the companies involved count on how busy we all are with de-regulated telephone service and barrages from all sides. It's time to take charge and I am grateful somebody is paying attention.
