I also had a letter sent about a 19 year old debt. This debt was assigned to my ex-husband at the time of our divorce. Camco said I owed $2126.75 but if I sent them the money by the end of the week they would give me a break and only take $1000.
I told them I didn't have the money and they informed me that looking at my credit report I had many ways of getting the money and that I needed to stop being a DEAD BEAT and pay my bills.
One other thing they said was that I should pay the $1000 and sue my ex-husband for the $2126.75 making money off of him.
When the manager came on line that is when I was told that my credit would be ruined, I could have my home taken, that I would never be able to get credit again, also he called me a few more choice words. I told him I would contact my lawyer and hung up.

The only way to fight these people is to make a paper trail send you story to everyone - include your state government, local tv, major networks. Good luck to all and keep fighting!
