On the same day that I was contacted by phone, offering me a merchandise credit facility with a credit card, I decided that the terms of the card had not been fully explained to me and I wanted to cancel. Contact numbers & e-mail address WERE given to me at the time of the phone call. This is what I did (tried to do!):
(1) Phone the Customer Service phone number. Got a recorded message stating that the office would be closed and would re-open on Jan 20th after the MLK holiday. Please note that i phoned this number again today (jan. 26th) AND GOT THE SAME MESSAGE!
By the way, the Simple Credit Plus number quoted previously in your web site has been 'Discontinued' - I tried that as well!
(2) FAX them: copy of this FAX:
" January 17th
Dear Sirs,
I have just been offered an account with you. The details are:
(Here I quoted my various different membership numbers which had been issued to me at the time of their first and only phone call to me; I don't want to reveal them here for obvious reasons - see below!)
This FAX is to notify you that I wish to cancel the arrangement with immediate effect.
Please note that this cancellation is being effected on Day 1 of the 10 day cancellation period so that I am well within that period.
Please also note that I have tried to e-mail yourselves using the address given to me on the telephone: [email protected] but this address apparently does not exist.
I have also tried to telephone the customer service number I was given over the phone, but this is also, apparently, non-existent.
Please ensure that I receive an acknowledgement of this FAX and the cancellation I have effected within 2 days or I will notify the appropriate Federal authority.
* (my name)"
To this date I've had no response.
(3) e-mail them: on Jan. 17th and NUMEROUS times on January 26th, assuring them I won't hesitate to sue if they don't respond and acknowledge my various e-mails and my FAX.
(For good measure I'm going to FAX them again tonight!)
Result: absolutely NO response as of 7.30pm PST Jan 26th.
They're due to take $249.00 from my bank account on Wed. 28th Jan. This is some kind of 'signing on' fee. I am ensuring that there won't be any funds in the account - now or later - until I'm sure they're not going to take it!
Scary huh?
